The picture is very well edited, and the light angles illuminate everything nicely! Good job on that! When viewing the picture, I interpret it as the dog is going to step off the landing to explore the unknown. If that's what you're going for, perhaps play that up by taking the photo from lower down to see more of the boundary between the "known" and "unknown" or take it from the dog's perspective to give a sense of the viewer venturing out like the dog?
